That's a faulty comparison: device links do not use a PCS, sure, but only
because they were *created* based on an ICC transform that indeed made use
of a PCS, with the added custom settings for black, ink purity, etc.
Those scanner LUTs, instead, had never been created that way, that I know
of. Am I mistaken about that?
