A couple of notes to add to Joe Holmes's suggestions.
The Epson driver (at least for the 9800) does not have a 92" limit. I have
printed a number of 120" prints on the 9800 in Tiger with my Mac Pro.
I read somewhere that there is a driver limit that is something over 120"
but I can't remember what that limit is.
I have not found it necessary to use Preview in printing files up to about
650 MB (the largest I've tried). Follow Joe's instructions to convert to the
printer profile first, then save the file, restart (seems to flush all
relevant memories) and then print with no color management in Photoshop. So
far it has worked every time.
Thanks for your notes, John, but -- as mentioned -- my customer's
problem is not the amount of data but the width or height of the file in
pixels: as soon as the width or height exceeds 30,000 px, you can't
print at all from Photoshop (the print command becomes inactive). But my
tiff2ps workaround seems to be promising.
