With inkjet papers I suspect that humidity may play a role in the
substrate's absorbance characteristics, but I do not have any direct
experience to verify this.

Robin,
Can you make the same claim for inkjet printers? To some extent?
My experience with profiling electrostatic color printers (e.g. laser
printers) is that they are extremely sensitive to temperature and
humidity variations. Both of these factors affect the ability to
charge the paper. If you want consistent results, make sure the
printer is in a temperature and humidity controlled room with tight
tolerances (e.g. 50% RH +-5%, 70 degrees F +- 2 degrees). Winter is
an
especially difficult time of year due to extremely low humidity and
wide temperature variations in some rooms as heating systems may be
turned off overnight.
