I had only heard that it didn't make it into IE7. And I know better
than to go through mental gymnastics wondering what that means with
respect to IE8. But more so than this is that so far Windows isn't
setting anything as the default display profile, including the lack of
an EDID based display profile. The lack of a display profile being set
means sRGB is assumed as the destination, which means if they assume
sRGB as source for all content, nothing happens. So it would only
affect those who have a display profile set.
