Hello Scott,

There have been a couple issues with ColorBurst's use of chroma for
linearization, though. One is the fact that optical brighteners in the media
will break the process unless you use a UV-cut spectro.

Also, they seem to be evolving their recommendations for which tool(s) to
use for ink limits & linearization. They came up with a L*a*b*-based & now a
Lightness-based method in addition to the original chroma one. (maybe you
know how "Lightness" differs from L* in L*a*b* - I don't)

For new media, I believe the recommended strategy is to use chroma-based
measurements for initial per-channel ink limits, then switch to a
Lightness-based method to build the linearization file itself. As for
setting total ink limits, they offer only a visual evaluation technique.

So I guess this all adds up to portray this ink limiting thing as still
pretty complicated. (Duh!) I too would like to see some simplification &
better use of instruments to help me through this critical step.

Regards,

John
