But according to him, it should be the opposite since luminance isn't
affected with tonal changes in ACR/LR, but is in Photoshop (by design).

No he doesn't. Nor does he recognize Thomas spent a lot more time working on
code to getting the effect most users expect AND if you want to go the other
route, you simply fade using Luminosity.
But if what Dan says is so true, lets see the math he said he came up with
(for those not there, Dan claims he has the math ACR uses that he figured
out and has in an Excel spreadsheet of which he refuses to share). The exact

Hum... Interesting. A script that opens images and in excel reveals the
exact mathematics of a Raw processor. He's so clever.
