Unless they take pain of saving their images with ICC profiles embedded.
Case in point, I had a client who resurrected a CMYK image from a year old
cover issue. When he finally got the proof from his printer, the colors was,
as usual, wrong. But after some digging, he realized the image was tagged
with his printer's "old" profile (these guys go from one custom profile to
the next). All of sudden, there was no confusion about what was going on. He
simply did a CMYK to CMYK conversion, in Photoshop, from the old ICC
profile, tagged with the image, to his printer's *new* ICC profile, and
voilĂ ! End of discussion. Happy ending :-)
So, good color habits can go a long way toward making our lives easier.
