I think that it will do well in its target markets - read the X-Rite PR
materials and you should get a pretty good idea of who they are. They are
not people who would want to export readings for analysis, or even consider
the nuances of different rendering intents for different images. For them
Lab is the place you used to get your film processed at ;-)
I suspect that many people on this list with much colour knowledge will find
its lack of advanced (adjustable) features and lack of expandability not
what they want.
I held back from making too many comparisons since I've not yet tried the
final software, and wouldn't like to publicly praise or criticise some
aspect that is 'fixed' in the shipping s/w
Profiles that I have created look good and run rings around the low patch
count options in i1 Match. With the final s/w I'll look at it for better
quality work. I suspect it will better many i1 match 918 patch profiles for
well behaved printers, and with the ability to 'fine tune' profiles by
generating additional patch sets it should get a lot more people used to the
idea of colour management.
Monitor profiles look good, but no better than some of the latest
colorimeter based ones (I've not done any detailed checking here though)
I don't think it will be replacing my iSis and PM5 ;-)
The Palettes application is vastly better than i1 Share, but then again I've
loathed that since I first looked at it (mostly with my ex HCI and usability
hats on). I'm still not sure why I'd use the software though, for my own
work.
The digital pouch concept is an interesting one, the doubt in the back of my
mind is how well corporate IT people are going to respond to the idea of
people sending/receiving self executing files, then again the target market
probably isn't blessed with a corporate IT department ;-)
bye for now
