Hi Matthew,
I suppose you convert with perceptual RI from AdobeRGB to CMYK and
then (in the case of the 2 step process) colorimetrically from CMYK to
CMYK?
In this case i suspect the perceptual mapping of the ProfileMaker
profile to be wacky.
If you send me the measurement data I´d be happy to create a profile
for you, or you can download basICColor print from www.basiccolor.de,
get a 14 days trial license and make the profile yourself. I am sure
you can go back to a 1 step process, since the basICColor perceptual
mapping is very close to colorimetric – where possible.
Best regards,
Karl Koch

I have recently created a new press profile using ProfileMaker
5.08. I am getting very good results as far as the proofer matching
the press sheets used to build the profile. My problem is with the
RGB to CMYK conversions. Converting in Photoshop from Adobe RGB
1998 to my profile, I get poor results in the out of gamut blues and
violets. But if I first convert from Adobe RGB 1998 to Gracol 2006
Coated v2, and then to my profile, the results are pretty good.
Here are the Lab numbers:
RGB 92 -12 -7
Convert RGB to my profile 77 -23 -7
Convert RGB to Gracol 87 -12 -7
Convert RGB to Graco to my profile 84 -12 -7
I am a little lost as to how to correct this. Are there certain
settings in ProfileMaker, such as gamut mapping or optical
brightner, that would improve my profile?
