Hello Dan,
An ICC transform between a 340 press profile and a 220 press profile will
mercilessly squash the nice sheetfed glossy colors down to crappy newsprint
colors, no question, however you choose to do it (relCol or perc).
In some proofing RIPs, such as EFI Colorproof XF, an intermediate
"simulation" profile can be specified at the time of printing so that the
Source can be, say, press340, the Destination HPZ2100 and the intermediate
profile, news220. This is a cinch to set up.
On other RIPs, I'm not sure how it's done. From memory.
In GMG, for example, only one transform, I think, can be carried out through
a single MX4 profile. I don't think it's possible to stack multiple MX4s in
a given print job, in the present 04 version. Perhaps using the ICC pipeline
of the RIP? I don't have a clear picture in my mind of what the ICC dialog
box of the print job looks like, which are fields are in, etc. But I
wouldn't be surprised that the option exists already.
