Marco,
does Joe User *want* to get involved in professional-level color proofing?
No.
Does he have both the desire and the propensity for it?
No and No.
IME, Joe User (who by definition uses Windows computers) does not have to
get involved with color management at all. His/her camera outputs in sRGB;
his PC defaults to sRGB; his printer defaults to sRGB; his scanner defaults
to sRGB; his online/shop printer requires sRGB. Its all done automatically
for him/her in the hardware/software. No problems. The color might not be
perfect, but who needs perfect? sRGB is good enough for Joe User (and some
professionals?)
The only people who have problems with CM are the less than 1% (?) who want
more than sRGB, (and perhaps those using Macs which don't seem to default to
sRGB?).
