I think Gutenprint can easily expose the ink control options etc, in
fact it *must* expose them and stuff the arameters in data files so
that the code gets cleaned up. At that point, writing an interface to
the parameter files will give the user all the control she wants.

I've heard many complaints about open source in my short life, but
lack of customizability is not a very frequent gripe.
