Some ink manufacturers, at the request of their client, can supply what they
call a certificate of analysis. This is done before the batch of ink goes
out the door and takes the form of a report that is delivered with the ink,
care of whomever happens to be responsible for ink color at the client site.
Short of generating one's own ink draws and other analytic techniques, in a
small lab, this is better than no control at all. It raises all kinds of
metrology issues but, with the cooperation of the ink supplier, it can bring
in meaningful and useful color data for process control.
