I did some tests that showed that 8-bits was enough. In fact I was
unable to tell any difference with as few as 6-bits. If you are interested I wrote a brief

Did your tests including sending 8bit vs high bit data directly to a printer that can accept hit bit data? That's the topic of discussion here, not bit depth workflow prior to sending data to the printer.
