Eric,
What you're reporting is most shocking to me and repeatable.
Granted, what Adobe does with Photoshop is Adobe's business but I never
thought they could process an image through the Perceptual tag in a way that
I don't understand. Unless there are provisions for this in the ICC specs I
missed, or maybe this is one of the pernicious effects of applying BPC in
XYZ, what you described is 100% true -- and sad.
To compare, I opened the same ISO Newspaper v4 profile in X-Rite's
ProfileEditor (should we say X-Rite ProfileEditor or GretagMacbeth
ProfileEditor now?) and, what I'm getting is along the lines I thought I'd
be getting in Photoshop, that is 240% TIL when plain using the Perceptual
tag with or without BPC checked.
Incidently, the RelCol or even AbsCol tags, in ProfileEditor, also yield
240% TIL.
So this is clearly a case of an unforeseen effect of BPC on my part and IFRA
does well to warn users about it. I'll learn to beware in the future too.
Regards / Roger
