Yes, guess. If the art creator is unresponsive, you and the project
director, or art director, must decide which profile to assign to make the
file look what seems its "best" to *you*.
In the absence of input from the creator, you are in charge.

If you document your inquiries with the image's creators, their inability to
provide the directions you requested, and how you were forced to make a call
on your own (or with your colleagues) -- that will tell the finger-pointers
to put that finger some place else...not in so many words, of course. <g>

Man...what kind of place do you work for? ;-)

Can you trust *yourself*? Then you must do that. Discuss the next steps with
your colleagues, make your call, document clearly and reliably (by email,
for example) why and how what you did had to be done, and let the chips fall
where they may. What else can you do? It's called "taking responsibility,"
and, yes, also CYA... <g>

Well, you must be competent enough to know that what *you* gave them is
accurate. The question is: do *they* know what to do with it? Provide a
clear description of your portion of the work, send them your own inkjet
proofs to match, and then ask for contract proofs *from them*.
