Most people do what, CD? Leave their ACD's native output of 350 cd/m2
untouched? That's a lot of light to stare at, all day, if you ask me.

I believe the issue here is that calibrating to basic settings that use the
native whitepoint will generate profiled LCDs that are a lot brighter than
CRTs. Yes, if you have controls that will dim your LCD to CRT luminance
levels, and are willing to do so, you can get similar luminances from the
two. But no, thats not what most people do.
