Hello Again,
I'm curious if this Color Handling setting effect might be a byproduct of HP drivers. I've now seen it printing to the Onyx Rip to HP5500 plotters and directly to an HP Z6100 printer.
When I select "Let Printer Determine Color" in Photoshop CS3's Color Handling, the resulting print on the Z6100 has a heavier black. The gray and color looks the same but the black is heavier than when I select No Color Management.
I do not see this difference in printed results when printing both ways to a Fiery/Xerox or Fiery/Canon combination Rip and printer.
One goes through the effort to profile a printer and then you have to deal with this issue from your application provider. Did I miss this in the Adobe documentation for Creative Suite or is this just another color management land mine waiting for the average user?

I think you spelled the word "manages" in those dialogs wrong. The way
to write it is reads m-a-n-g-l-e-s.
Only "Photoshop Manages Colors" or "No Color Management"
should be
used. If you select "Printer Manages Colors" then the Mac printer
driver on the machine you're running on gets called in and starts
mangling your files to look like green orc blood.
As printer drivers run now on Macs, finding one setting which works
consistently and using it all the time, however inconvenient seems to
be the recipe for a happy and heart-attack free life. You found a
setting that works - great, now stick to it!

Photoshop's Printer Handling pull-down, I selected "No Color
Management" and the problem cast went away. Why?
