Martin,
The responses to your question must give many a sense of unreality.
The eye is quite forgiving of differences in such dark colors, and a
dE of 4.4 on that patch should not be regarded as bad at all,
certainly not the cause to embark on an iteration of 20,000 patches
as was suggested. It may be near the gamut boundary, but not an
important part of it.
If you really want to know where you stand, verify an entire
profiling chart and look at the best 95%, both average and peak dE.
Expect more hue errors in paper white and solids, especially in
yellow (on Epsons, anyway), which is also very hard to detect
visually. Gray balance is far and away the most important thing to
care about in actual proofing, as opposed to printing great control
patches. Even relatively small gray balance errors will break nearly
any print job, whereas solids (statistically extremely rare in
photographic content) and very dark colors are visually many times
less critical to the impression of overall accuracy. Also keep in
mind that a control wedge, even a large one like this, is nothing
more than a quick process control meant to flag problems; don't get
too hung up on a single patch, to which the small sampling gives
undue prominence.

Anybody using the latest Fogra Media Wedge?
If you are, what sort of results are you getting for patch A22 -- it's
ruining my approval stickers by scoring 4.4dE on ISO Coated v2 :-(
Running GMG SemiMatte paper through an Epson 9880. Everything apart
from patch A22 is incredibly tight.
