Yeah, but accurate color is just as slippery and has been since long
before the days of adding a few millimeters sodium hydroxide to tweak
the blues.
I'm really grateful to Uli and Andrew for opening up this Pandora's Box
for scrutiny and comprehension. I recently lost a major client because
the Camera Raw pipeline could not reproduce a painting's color
faithfully. A BetterLight with ICC profiling was much better but the
budget didn't allow for the entire collection to be photographed large
format. For DSLR, I subsequently discovered Capture One's capacity for
integrating custom profiles and, for repro work, have found that to be a
much more reliable workflow than either Canon or Adobe's solutions. Take
this as a real-world, independent corroboration of Uli's summary
findings, with no pretensions whatsoever for scientific validity or
universality.
Thanks to those who care about colorimetric accuracy and repeatability.
I'm looking forward to testing the DNG Profile Editor against i1/C1.
Kudos to all who brave slings & arrows and who work to make the promises
of color management a reality.
