I don't know...our 938, that's at least 13 years old matches another
938 within 0.35 dE76 on a Lab ref card.

Aside from the obvious, my main concerns with inter-instrument
agreement issues arises from the fact that more and more printers are
defining tight tolerances for proof acceptance, for example based on
the SWOP/Gracol Certified Proofing System tolerances. And since our
instruments will only agree so much, competent proofs can be rejected
because instruments from one party to the next aren't seeing eye to
eye. In this case, its more of an educational issue, but try
explaining to someone that they shouldn't trust their instrument to
that degree. ;)

Although I would certainly agree with a re-certification procedure
overall, knowing that two instruments are certified tells little of
their agreement to each other, or their consistency through out the
year in between certification. I would much prefer a regimented
verification procedure for devices, either using a Lab-Ref card or
BCRA tiles to gauge agreement issues, as well as trend consistency/
performance of any given device (and only re-certifying when
performance falters, because with multiple instruments, this adds up
to serious $ fast). Of course, Netprofiler could make big inroads in
not only gauging agreement issues, but rectifying them...were it not
for lack of instrument support.
