Bob, Lorenzo, et al:
The LP2480zx certainly is impressive. Here is what we know about the
calibration package for the HP DreamColor LP2480zx so far:
Product wording from HP:
· KZ300AA Advanced Profiling Solution (Calibration Kit) At $349
this LCD monitor option is designed for professional users who require
precision color accuracy in their work output. It allows users to
quickly and accurately calibrate monitor front-of-screen settings to
prevent any drift of critical monitor color or whitepoint settings.
The kit contains a colorimeter and related software (for both
Microsoft® Windows® and Apple Mac OS X; Linux support is planned
through an open source project) that provides a number of options for
display calibration (whitepoint, gamma, and luminance).
Our further investigation reveals:
- the colorimeter is an Eye-One Display 2 enhanced to sense the wider
range of the DreamColor
- the HP calibration software does allow more intimate digital
functional control over the monitor (than a 3rd party product), and
allows storage of the data to the higher bit-depth LUT memory on the
monitor.
Certainly other questions exist:
- does the HP software work with other sensors?
- will an emissive spectrophotometer (i.e.,: i1Pro) be effective?
- what are the other functions available in the software?
We will be getting the KZ300AA Calibration kit soon to test on our
LP2480zx and will report our findings.

Lorenzo,
I don't think it's available yet. Rick Hatmaker got us these
displays and
advised that both the hood and the calibration package are not yet
available, but Chromix has them on order. He will let me know when
they are
in. I used ProfileMaker with my eye-one display2.

Hi Bob,
Nice manual, with a clear description of the color path in the
monitor? Did
you get the HP/Xrite software to adjust the internal LUT? This
software may
give you smoother tones than PM5.
Best regards,
Lorenzo

Lorenzo,
Yes, it does have a high-resolution LUT, and I did NOT notice any
banding on
my screen whatsoever. Not even a hint. Here's the User Guide if
anyone is
interested:
