Difference blend mode has changed?

  • Subject: Difference blend mode has changed?

I am trying to compare the effect of edits on a CMYK image.

In the past, I remember that I used to be able to arrange the before and
after images on two separate Photoshop layers. That way, by turning on the
Difference blend for the top layer image, I would get the "difference"
between the two images and I could easily judge the effectiveness of my
edits. But not anymore, it seems.

Has this feature changed or otherwise "evolved" over the recent CS versions?

All I get now is a solid black image throughout, as soon as I select
Difference, as though there wouldn't be any differences at all between the
two images while the color picker *does* show the dot percentages to be very
different from one layer to the other.

Maybe there is a sensitivity setting somewhere?

I'm loosing my "latin".

Roger
