Hmmm - even though I've been in color for a while, I'll have to defer to
some of the older Neandrethal (I'm a younger one) participants of this
group who have actually used such beasts. My entree' into the field in the
mid '80s was with Eikonix Corp which was building DesignMaster 9000, the
first all digital commercial Color Electronic Pre-Press system, which was
intended to eventually obsolete drum scanners. As I recall, those very
expensive analog machines were capable of producing beautiful prints, but
required the skills of a highly trained operator to work a dauntingly
complex set of controls.
