Mike,
did you ever give basICColor display 4 a try? Normally if I have
problems in calibrating and profiling my monitors using i1Match and/or
ColorNavigator I download the most recent version of a third party
software - in this case basICColor display 4 and with the 14 day
tryout license I can calibrate and profile my monitor. Often I
received much better results .... This software also supports hardware
calibration for the CG220 ...
On a fresh Tiger installation I didn't have any of these problems ...
Best Regards
Hanspeter Harpf

I asked a while back about using the Sony Artisan software under OX
10.5, and was told that 10.5.6 negates DDC capabilities. For other
reasons, we decided against 10.5 altogether, and basically did a
fresh install of 10.4.11 on a few Macs here. One of them refuses to
calibrate, getting stuck in a loop within the Artisan software.
Manually calibratin it with i1Match lead to some strange results
(weak black point). So, to rule out the monitor, I tried a
different Artisan Monitor with the same results. I also noted that
another Mac with an Eizo CG220 and Cintiq 21ux connected will no
longer allow for DDC capability with the CG220 using either Color
Navigator (which doesn't recognize that there's a CG220 connected at
all) and i1Match. Has anyone had similar issues when undergoing a
fresh install of Tiger?
