On Solux's web site:
"SoLux also comes in a color temperature of 5000K(D50) (± 200K)."
"The Solar Simulator D50 Ten Light Array has everything you need to do your
proofing at your work station area. The 5" x 5-1/2" x 26-1/2" 500 watt
fixture includes: Ten SoLux 36 degree lamps, mounting brackets, and power
cord. It provides SoLux D50 lighting recommended by all the color experts."

The 10 light array is what we purchased which has the 4700K bulbs and
measures 4450K. So both bulbs are labeled on their web site as D50.

Come on, am I really being so ambiguous? I don't think so. I want the 5000K
that is closest to that of D50, of course. (Why do you always make this so
difficult?)
Considering that the difference between the spectra of these bulbs is not
going to be significant, I don't think it's such a stretch to talk about
which can get closer to 5000K (as well as all of the other
measures--chromaticity error, CRI, MI). I've still heard nothing yet to
explain why the 4700K bulb would be preferred over the 5000K bulb,
particularly for a soft-proofing application.
