The User Guide states, on page 119, that the XP printer driver and
Color
Swatch Utility only support RGB. So don't bother sending CMYK
documents
directly to this device. That's just asking for trouble. According
to page
120, you can print using the ICC profiles supplied by Oki or use Oki
Color
Matching. But you're basically out of luck because there is no way to
disable color management in this printer at all. So that you could
hope for
is the supplied ICC profile and the Manual Color method.
One other possibility (just a possibility), is that you could assign
the Oki color profile to an RGB profiling target, print the target
(assumedly a null transform would cancel out the un-stoppable color
managment) and then replace the Oki profile with the resulting RGB
profile, renamed to exactly match the name of the Oki profile. If that
last step is not possible, then you would be obliged to convert all
files to the custom output profile in Photoshop, and then assign the
Oki profile before printing, which is not a convenient workflow, but
it could be automated with an Applescript which would allow you to
drop images on a dock icon, and have them automatically converted, and
assigned. Whether you could get the script to then print them for you
would be the million dollar question.
Life becomes more complicated when you start wanting color management
in page layout documents as well as images... whether you could manage
the same workflow from InDesign or from PDFs would be the next
question, but you could worry about that after you had dealt with the
image color management issues successfully.
It would certainly be much more convenient if Oki would offer no color
management, and custom RGB profile options in the driver...
