I think the same principles apply. The exact wording from the CS4 documentation <http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/6.0/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-70b9a.html> under the heading "Color management and PDF/X output options for PDFs" is:
>>
Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers)
Converts colors to the destination profile space only if they have embedded profiles that differ from the destination profile (or if they are RGB colors, and the destination profile is CMYK, or vice versa). Untagged color objects (those without embedded profiles) and native objects (such as line art or type) are not converted. This option is not available if color management is off. Whether the profile is included or not is determined by the Profile Inclusion Policy.
<<
And then, within the context of having color settings of Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles), even CMYK images which have a differing embedded profile from the document profile will not be converted, unless you override the behavior on a per-image basis by changing the applied profile from Use Document Default to the embedded profile (or another profile) from Object > Image Color Settings...
That is how I understand it, at any rate. It does work the way I generally want it to. For instance, if most of my images are set to WebCoatedSWOP2006Grade3, while screen captures will be set to SWOP Coated Max GCR. Neither will be altered when output to PDF.
