SWOP proofs grade 3 paper colour

Hi list,
I find the paper tint on SWOP3 proofs very strong/dense.
L*91.2 a*0.0 b*0.2
What is the situation / advice on turning this off or down?
Proofing a job using GMG on Epson 9880. Job going in US Vogue.

Is this paper simulation really what everyone accepts in US to be accurate? I've not had a large experience of American proofing... Thanks
