I've seen the brightness slider in the Displays System Preference Pane on the new iMacs. That's where it should be - under the "Display" tab. It's not visible when you are in the "Color" and "Options" tabs.

p.s. As much as I initially poo-poo'ed the glossy glass displays I've grown to like them when used in environments with great lighting.
