One way to solve this issue is to always calibrate your instruments to
a known independent standard. Each instrument then has corrections
factors applied to reference it back to the standard. This can
drastically reduce the inter-instrument agreement issue. This is best
accomplished with spectral devices. There are some companies that
offer remote services for this calibration. GretagMacbeth used to have
this for instruments like the ColorEye series. I am not sure if X-Rite
still continues this service.

Hello. Here is a question about color measurement. For those of you
who have
implemented process control and process tracking, I was wondering
what is
your strategy if somewhere down the road you change the color
measurement
device. As we know, inter-instrument agreement is not perfect even
if the
instruments are very stable devices. So, what happens if you change
your
device and all of a sudden your tolerances may not be met or your
process
tracking history has sudden spikes, but the problem is not with the
process
but rather due to a mismatch between the measuring devices?
Has anyone dealt with this before or planned for it in your current
workflow?
Just curious...
