It's my understanding that all three channels are in fact sampled on each
sensor. The center area, and concentric circles that you see in the patent
are referring to the region of each sensor that is utilized for each of the
three bands. In other words, the very center will detect one band at a
certain depth in the sensor, the concentric circle around it will detect
another band at a different depth, and the outer concentric circle detects
the final wavelength band at yet a different depth in the silicon. However,
this configuration is on every sensor in the array.
