I never really saw anything that was aiming this towards "high end"
color critical users. To the end that HP and Dreamworks created this
monitor was to bring the ability to see and work with a wider range of
colors to users in the digital photography and digital animation
business where smaller studios cannot afford "high end" color critical
units like the Sony LMD3250MD 32" Medical Grade LCD Monitor @
$7,495.00 USD or BVML230 23" HD LCD Master Monitor @ $21,500.00 USD.
Both of these panels are 10 bit signal and 10 bit panels but they max
out at 1920x1080. Going into Barco sales you are looking at 30"
Coronis Fusion 6MP DL is a bit higher resolution at QSXGAW monitor
with 30 bit ability, but again you are looking at $20,000 dollars!
To that end, the DreamColor 24" display being 1920 x 1200 but still a
full 30 bit panel for $1,999.00 USD isn't a bad deal at all. For the
purposes of most users who deal with seeing a full gamut of NTSC or do
a lot of photoshop work and want to see what they are doing with
subtle shadings. I always thought it was a good value. If the first
panel isn't right. Send it back. I figure I pay to get my money's
worth :)

I also examined some NEC and Quato displays, but none convinced me

The one I have has a colour shift but it varies with the viewing
angle and
temperature of the monitor.
After reading the reports here , I think I'll not risk asking for
another as
this one is acceptable for what I need and see.
I have not seen any other monitor with the range of colours of the
HP that
have very good off center viewing, making life a joy in editing in
LR.
There are some very interesting things going on in the monitor
which are not
really documented. Yet the important element is there, for seeing
all the
colour in the RAW captures, this is the one that sings. For now at
least.

But surely not being able to display a neutral gray with NO colour
casts make this monitor unacceptable for high-end colour critical
users in which it is marketed?.
