2 things of note.
First the comment on hardware. Apple and other manufactures are very
regular on their updates. It is not a problem "guessing" when to buy a
machine so I do not see how that is really an issue in this discussion.
Second, it has been millennia in software years since there have been
upgrades to these packages. So people being very cautions about purchasing
an incremental upgrade when they might be creating a consolidated or whole
new package around the corner is justifiable.
X-rite/Gretag has brought this on themselves. They have neglected the very
serious color management professional for the "prosumer" market. I
remember seeing like discussions around Photoshop a few years back.
Serious retouchers were getting nothing while they added wiz-bang junk for
the mainstream dabbler. And, considering there is some crossover in this
crowd I am not surprised to see this conversation stir. Times are tight
and money does not grow on trees regardless of what the Fed might present.
At least for my group it does not.
