If I was in this situation, I would try these things.
Try ColorEyes Pro http://www.integrated-color.com/cedpro/coloreyesdisplay.html
to see if it can control DDC aspect of the monitor. Maybe you
already have.
Try on different computer with different cables.
Install 10.5 on a clean (new install) partition and test that. If that
happens to work I would try 10.5.7 combo updated. If 10.5.7 happens to
not work then start with 10.5 again and install and test progressive
updates. On all updates do not install on a live booted partition.
If none of this works and your computer is not too new that you can't
install 10.4.11, you could try that.
Having said all this you should not have to do this. But, if no one
else has experienced this you might have to.

LaCie has told me that the 730 should work. My experience says that
it doesn't work. About the only calibration package that works is
the Eye One Match, which doesn't take advantage of the DDC aspect of
the monitor.
