I see no evidence that Adobe has ever tried to take credit for this profile,
and I don't know of anyone who refers to it as "Adobe ProPhoto RGB" (or
"Kodak ProPhoto RGB" for that matter -- it's simply "ProPhoto RGB" plain and
simple).
Here is all the metadata from profile itself:
Copyright (c) Eastman Kodak Company, 1999, all rights reserved.
Device manufacturer: 'KODA'
Localized device manufacturer desciption: KODAK
I see no subterfuge there. And the description clearly visible when
selecting ProPhoto RGB in Photoshop:
ProPhoto RGB: Provides a very large RGB gamut that encompasses the entire
range of photographic materials. This is a color space particularly suited
for output devices such as digital dye sub and inkjet photo printers, and
for applications such as HiFi color. ProPhoto RGB is also called ³ROMM RGB²
(see www.pima.net).
Again, no attempt to take credit for anything. And it was very kind of them
to include the reference to ROMM RGB (for anyone who might already have it)
and a link to the website.
You have a very low opinion of Adobe in general, it seems, but conversely
you think very highly of their ability to hide the facts when they actually
seem to be quite incapable of it.
:o)
