Hi Steve,
these two displays are not in the same ballpark, as the price suggests. The NEC's IPS panel may be impressive, but calibration through the DDC interface proved to be a hassle. Also, the monitor is stuffed with technologies a professional will not ever need or like (eg. the ambient light sensor, which will surely ruin the calibration's precision). The bundled Eye One Display 2 colorimeter is also a big question - please see Mr. Kuhnen-Burger's comparison with other measurement devices in the colorsync archive (it happened 1-2 weeks ago).
Your chosen EIZO has a VA panel, which makes it hardly useful if you ever plan to get a colleague or a customer beside you in front of the screen - you two will not see the same image definitely, as the VA panel's viewing angle problems start to show even when you move your head a bit more. Again, please see the archive regarding this phenomenon.
If you're willing to spend that much money on a screen, you should aim for an S-IPS panel, active uniformity electronics, USB calibration interface, and some kind of integrated validation or certificaton of the performance. Please take a look at Quato's 240ex, which even have a 102% NTSC volume for a much better Adobe-RGB match:
