Chris,
Doesn't ColorPort also allow spot readings using the EyeOnePro? I think it's
called "patch mode" as opposed to "strip mode". The only drag with ColorPort
is that it's a "chart-oriented" utility, in that you have to defined some
set of device values, prior to start taking readings, which is considered a
collection of colors or chart. But once you've defined some arbitrary number
of test patches you'd like to work with, you just tell the program to load
that "chart" for reading and away you go. In your case, to carry a few
simple spot readings, you could just use one of the pre-defined charts like
the "IT8 Basic" and make your readings based on that chart. Worth
considering, come to think of it, because there is an info panel where the
readings are displayed as you go along, it brings a nice interactive touch
to the process. Your choice. The other posters's suggestions are equally
valid, in my view. The advantage with ColorPort is that you can dump your
readings in a text file at the end of your measurement sessions -- ColorPort
does not care what you dump into that file, whether they correspond to the
defined device values or not. I wouldn't use EyeOneShare for making a few
spot readings with the EyeOne, although it's nice to see the spectrum
displayed for the particular sample being measured. Argyll is a fantastic
value, and I believe you can also capture the console to a text editor, so
you don't have to re-type the values for the colors being measured if you
need to bring them into Excel or some other environment for further
processing.
