The free XRite utility ColorLab will do what you are looking for.
Start off by downloading it at:
<http://tinyurl.com/2eqtgz>
Uncompress the downloaded file, then launch ColorLab.
Next, connect your spectrophotometer to your Mac.
In ColorLab, under the Edit menu, select "Instrument Configuration".
Select your instrument from the pulldown instrument menu (let's say, an EyeOne Pro). Click the "Reflection" radio button. The "Spectral" check box is not necessary in this case, because you are just going to take Lab measurements: so leave it unchecked. Make sure that you read "OK" in the lower left of the "Instrument Configuration" dialog box. If it reads "Not found", select another instrument (any of them), then select the EyeOne again. Now you should read "OK". Close the dialog box.
Next, from the "File" menu, select "New". Change the mode of the new file to Lab by going to Filter > Mode > Lab. The "Untitled" window will now show "Lab" in its upper left corner.
Now choose the "Handy Measure Tool" from the "Special" menu. You will be prompted to calibrate your spectrophotometer by placing it over the white tile in its cradle. Click "OK".
Next, click on the "Untitled" window to select it. You will see the name "Untitled (Lab)" appear in the "Spot Measure" floating window.
You're now ready to start taking your spot measurements. Click the side button of your EyeOne (or other spectrophotometer), and you will see that patches appear in the "Untitled" window, corresponding to your measured values. As far as I know, you can take as many measurements as you wish.
When you are finished taking your measurements, export your data by going to File > Export, and choose the "Text files" format. Your measurement file will be saved in standard CGATS format.
Good luck.
