I don't think Roger(?) meant that the ECI2002 target was bad, just the
*patch layout* that's imposed by your EyeOne Pro is not optimum for
press profiling. In fact, I would make the argument that perhaps a
SMALLER CMYK target like the IT8.7/3 (around 900 patches instead of
1,500 patches) would be better for your situation. The EyeOne Pro
patch layouts require too much press real estate in my mind making it
perhaps more sensitve to inking variations across the press form. A
smaller target would allow you to perhaps focus on the center of the
press form and not be subject to ink key variations as
much...sometimes less is more! Better yet, if the smaller patch count
allowed you to place two charts on the press form (rotated 180 from
each other), that might be an advantage also....but my gut says to use
the smallest chart you can, place it in the center of the sheet and
have the pressman focus on getting the ink density as even as possible
across the chart area.
Have you also taken our advice as far as what exactly it is you're
going to target during the press run? If you leave it up to the whim
of the pressman to decide what the densities should be, I think you'll
have the same problem as before....and they need to give you more than
200 sheets (even a decent *make ready* for press profiling can take
upwards of 500-1,000 sheets). They need to allow as many sheets as
necessary to get the press stable and consistent and only THEN should
they run perhaps another 1,000-2,000 sheets for you to profile. If
they give the argument something like "we only allow 200 sheets for
make-ready for a 1,000 sheet press run so that's all we'll give you"
then I'd simply walk away from this whole endeavor since you're not
going to get anything worthwhile in my opinion.
FWIW, if you'd like to include a profile target for an iSis that uses
about *1/4* the area of an EyeOne Pro chart, I'd be happy to provide
you with the target, measure the sheets and hand you back the
measurement data. You could easily fit two iSis charts on a 29" press.

I guarantee.
Why is that? Is something wrong with the ECI2002 target?
