Randy,
An interesting point of view. Clients come in printing with all kinds of
expectations. Some only swear by making their own separations but others,
like you note, prefer to leave them to whomever they deem has more knowledge
of the process than themselves. Some clients truly have zero skills at color
separations, as you note, and couldn't be bothered to make their own. What
surprises me is those that claim they know everything, come up with their
own "custom-flavored" proofs and expect poor printers to hit color within
ridiculously tight tolerances. We get to see all kinds -- that's what keep
us on our toes ;-)
