I'll throw my penny's worth in.
Why not SWOP2006_Coated3 as "standard" separation profile? It represents a rather "gender-neutral" print condition that is perfect as a publication profile. Paper white of this profile is a neither too-bright/too-dark nor too-yellow/too-blue L*a*b* value of L92.5 a0 b0.
While GRACoL Coated1 might too far on the commercial side, SWOP_Coated5 represents a printing condition and paper white (L90 a0 b+4) that is only used by "down and dirty" catalog printers that I find not very typical. SWOP Coated3 represents a nice middle ground that I think is more typical of web offset printing today than either US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 or SWOP Coated5. It might be the ideal "Generic" CMYK profile.
What say you guys?
:-)

Terry
