Hello Tom and all,
Thank you for the long and detailed answer. I started the discussion
about my whises incl. use case and target groups at the ICC
workflow-group and also at the OpenICC list, where the Open-Source
community discussing ICC implementation issues.
If more feedback will come, I will give an update here on the colorsync
mailinglist.
Tom, you wrote:
We have the mechanism in the current specification to physically manage Jan
Peter's request. This should be manageable with the new Dictionary Tag
which offers rapid additions of needed data slugs to small segments of the
market without forcing a wholesale change in the ISO specification process.
Personally,I am not following this in detail because there are members who
have far greater knowledge and specific talents in this area.
my whish of a "control slug" or "information line" with print relevant
colorsettings is in my eyes more outside the ICC specs. (it could be
implemented with out changing the ICC specs...)
What I wish is a machine readable format of the current active
colorsetting of e.g.
- Operating system
- application
- printer driver
at a defined place on a computer, e.g.
"system/preferences/active_colorsettings"
If the user activates in the printer driver the option "print
colorsettings information", all the colorsettings incl. colormanagement
policies of
- Operating system
- application
- printer driver
are collected and printed into a one big "control slug, or information line"
A colormanagement expert would be able to see:
- Does the OS, Application or Printer driver embeds source profiles or
applies color transformations to some standard target profiles, which
are not wanted by the user ?
- Are all the settings for the daily production consistent, to the
setting, from which an individual printer profile has been generated ?
In the current state, it would be more a tool for documenting the
correct printing of profiling test charts and trouble shooting
questionable results in daily production.
Best regards
Jan-Peter
