Peter,
My limited testing on Word & PowerPoint Mac 2004:
RGB:
- JPEG: colors might change
- TIFF: colors might change
- PNG: colors might change
- EPS: postscript printer: colors survive if printer is setup correctly
non postscript printer: a low res preview is printed
CMYK:
- JPEG: colors will change to RGB
- TIFF: colors will change to RGB
- EPS: postscript printer: colors survive if printer is setup correctly
non postscript printer: a low res RGB preview is printed
It **seems** to me that
- all embedded profiles are ignored
- RGB (except EPS) will print to the printers default color space
(which ever that is at the time of printing: RGB values are just passed thru)
- CMYK (except EPS) are converted to RGB using simple math
(no profiles involved, no rendering intends)
- Office is unable to access internals of EPS files.
=> EPS is tunneld without touching and prints fine on PostScript printers
Non PostScript printers are printing a low res RGB if one is embedded
inside the EPS file, otherwise that space is left empty
Bottom line:
- never expect colors to survive in MS Office
