Not working for me with Word 2004 on a Mac Pro running 10.5.8.
I made three copies of an image: the original in Adobe RGB, converted to sRGB, and converted to ProPhot RGB (from the original). Of course all looked identical in Photoshop. Imported into Word, they all appeared to be rendered with an assumed profile of sRGB. The sRGB image looked OK, and the Adobe RGB image looked somewhat desaturated, and the ProPhoto RGB image looked very desaturated and greenish. It made no difference when they were imported with file links or not.
Printing to PDF using the Acrobat 9 driver produced the same visual result. All images showed as Calibrated RGB.
