It's been a few years since I've worked in the graphic arts industry or with
large-format printers, but that will be changing soon, and I'm looking to
purchase a large-format printer (24" or 44", mainly for photography work,
not pre-press).
I was hoping those of you familiar the current landscape of the technology
and devices may weigh in on some of the offerings that our out there. I've
not found much information succinctly describing and comparing the
approaches that Epson, Canon, and HP have taken in recent years with these
devices or comparing similar printers (e.g. Epson 9900/9880/7900/7880; Canon
iPF8300/8100/6200/6100; HP Z6100/Z3200/Z2100). I found, for example, one
brief article in 2008 about Epson's falling behind Canon and HP's
significant (and successful, according to the article) R&D efforts in
'06-07, but the information wasn't detailed or current, and it only bred new
questions for me.
In addition to general comments on the technology, I'd very much appreciate
any personal experience and opinions of the devices. You're the gurus of the
industry, and I value your opinions.
Also, if you happen to know of any resources that addresses many of these
questions (and would save your fingertips), by all means let me know.
Thanks so much!
Cheers,
Steven
