It actually does the right thing, but what you end up with is a screenshot of the entire window frame and the shadow around the window too. That's why I pointed out that if I would have to crop the image to the right size, because what I want is the contents of the movie frame, not what the movie looks like in a window.
Right, and it's easier to crop the grab while enlarged in Photoshop rather than trying to draw the perfect rectangle at the time of capture. Agreed - it would be nice if:
1) One could do a screen grab without the drop shadow
2) If the grab was automatically converted to sRGB
3) If Quicktime player would allow one to take a screen grab of just the movie area while in full screen mode.
4) If Quicktime player would allow one to export a frame as a JPEG.
As to #4, I'd bet they haven't gotten around to implementing that yet but intent to. Interestingly enough, there is a "Export Progress" window that you can open from the Window pull down menu and it uses the old brushed aluminum interface. All the other windows including the "Movie Inspector" use the newer, black interface. Seems an obvious oversight and could suggest that Exporting just hasn't made it into the current version.
Looks to me that until they implement frame exporting, your best best is to take a screen grab and crop and convert them in PS afterwards. It's not too tedious but if you can provide some of this feedback to Apple perhaps the technology will push forward.
