In my opinion, there are plenty of #1 sheets around that can fit the bill.
Hanno Art? Euro Art? Horizon Gloss? I'm not familiar with popular #1 sheets
in the US but all you need is your spectrophotometer and a sample of sheets
available from your local paper merchant. Are you producing proofs for some
specifications conformance in mind? It does not have to be 95, 0, -2, you
know (I think Lustro Gloss did not have a b* of exactly -2, depending on the
instruments it was measured with). In fact, the majority of "affordable" #1
sheets out there, all tend to cluster around b* = 4, rather than -2 (think
Optical Brighteners). So, which will it be, stick to a supplier's
recommendations or go for a more meaningful proof because it corresponds
with a more widespread practice? Just stay away from anything with a b* of 5
or 6 or 7, if you can. I mean, if you take the time to go through a dozen
sample sheets available locally, you're bound to find one with a b* less
than 5.

Best / Roger
