Hi Roger,
I use the same scanner, but on OS X.

Here's where we differ. I don't bother with Nikon CM. I use the scanner as a "dumb scanner." I've set Nikon Scan to manual mode with CM turned OFF, and manually set the gamma. (2.4, if I remember right, based on the test recommended by Don Hutchinson.) I scan in 16-bit (of course). I've profiled the scanner to a 35mm Hutch target, and I make zero changes to the scanner settings during scans. I use the bulk loader. When finished, I assign the scanner profile, convert to my working space (usually ProPhoto), and then make corrections in... ACR. I used to make corrections in Photoshop proper, but I found ACR to be much faster. Good quality scans from the scanner, and image manipulation using tools I know well, that work well. YMMV, but it works great for me.
