Hi Marco,
I decided to skip your verbal offenses as I think this won't taken us
any step furhter.

Relax, Marco: nobody tries to negate your points. Graeme honored your
"attempts to correct the popular usage of the term
'Metamerism'" and no one denies that metamerism describes the
relationship of a pair of samples while "color constancy" pertains to
the sensation of one sample under different conditions.
We just tried to discuss the relationship between metamerism and color
constancy -- just as you did when you quoted Berns: "Related to
metamerism is COLOR CONSTANCY [...] Each object forming a metameric pair
has a different DEGREE OF COLOR INCONSTANCY."
And we realized that there are /two/ contradictory meanings of color
constancy, one closely related to metamerism and one that covers a much
broader area of vision. The latter has neither much to do with
metamerism nor with physical properties of light and sample. These
properties are not sufficient to explain the broader concept of color
constancy.
Let us keep in mind that color is first and foremost a
perception and not a physical property.
Whereas I verifiably said otherwise, in my usual "dogmatic" manner. I see. (Where are the quotes to back this up, by the way?)
I don't know how this is defined in the English-speaking language area,
but in Germany we have the industry standard DIN 5033 which defines
color unambiguously as a human sensation (i.e. not a physical property).
